Sowing and reaping. Planting and harvesting.
My husband Jack and I plant a garden in our back yard most every year. We will often have 3-4 rows of corn, dropping a couple hundred kernels/seeds into the ground when we plant. My cousin Terry is a farmer. He drops hundreds of bushels of kernels/seeds into the hundreds of acres of land he farms.
Obviously, Terry’s crop is much larger than ours. He starts out with more land to plant and plants exponentially more corn than we do.
This physical concept works in every area of our lives. We can choose to live with a scarcity mindset or an abundance mindset. Whichever we choose determines the amount of seed we plant, and thus the harvest we will enjoy.
We often get wrapped up in the thought that all we have is God’s. We can even begin to think that is authoritarian and inequitable.
What we often don’t realize is
that as Christ-followers,
all God has is ours.
What?!?
Believer, we are not sowing from our own produce, we are sowing from God’s — whether we’re talking about physical seed, financial seed, or spiritual seed.
As followers of Jesus, we have Him, His presence, His glory in us. He has opened the storehouses of heaven to us. We are not bound by the limitations of our circumstances.
It’s often said that we can’t outgive God, and while it sounds like a nice, trite sound bite, it’s truth. Our generosity with what God has provided us breeds generosity in others, and blesses us in ways we can’t conceive.
