Save the Best Security for Your Heart

GUARD YOUR HEART ABOVE ALL ELSE!!!

What protections do you use to protect your home? Doors and windows that lock? Deadbolts in place? Alarms that sound? What about your car? When you park, do you make sure the doors are locked? Especially in a strange-to-you place?

Do you have systems and plans in place to protect your marriage? Date nights, daily relationship workouts?

What about your children? Do you have a secret word to use if you send someone to pick them up because you can’t?

What about your eyes? Do you use safety glasses to keep the tiny bits that may create damage from getting in your eyes?

Do you add hearing protection when mowing or doing loud activities?

God said we’re to guard our hearts even more than we do these—or anything else. Even more.

See, neither our homes, cars, marriage,
children, eyes, ears, nor anything else
determine the course of our lives
like our hearts do.
The very springs of life flow from our hearts.

Have you ever gotten a taste of water from a fresh water spring? Oh, so good! Likewise, water from a poorly fed pond that has grown algae is not so delightful.

It’s like drinking from the garden hose (do people do that anymore?). If the water hasn’t recently run through that hose, the first drink is likely warm and tastes like the hose smells. ICK! But if you allow the water to run from the source and out through the hose, that next drink is refreshing and delicious.

We must keep a guard on our hearts to prevent the algae from growing. We have to keep life flowing from the Source through us or our life becomes disconnected and rancid.

When we are disconnected from the Source, we become critical.
We make poor choices.
We allow circumstances to direct our lives rather than following the Giver of life.

Every time you lock a door or set an alarm, every time you double check where your kids or spouse are, every time you think about security, check the guard on your heart. Make sure you’re not allowing ugliness to creep in. Be certain that the only source of your flow is the Savior. That’s more important than any of the other security measures you take.

Coffee, Bible, Journal.
