How amazing is this? I can get all my dreams come true! It’s like a cosmic vending machine; I put in my time and effort and voila, all my desires are reality.
I’ll be rich beyond imagination, I’ll have a big home, I’ll have maids and cooks, I’ll have a Lamborghini and a Maybach and a Rolls Royce…

Uhh, no.
God is NOT some sort of cosmic vending machine. These words of God, written by David, are not saying that if we like God, He will give us what we want.
What happens when we delight in something or someone? Do we not fall more deeply in love with them? Do we not pour our hearts and minds into them?
When we delight in the Lord, we spend time in His Word – even Numbers and Leviticus. We care about what He says is right and lament when we do what He says is wrong. We talk to Him and listen for His response.
WE CHANGE.
His desires become our desires.
And then, because our desires and secret petitions are in line with His, He will give them to us.
We must keep in mind that God never changes and that He will not reward sin. While His love for us never changes and we’ll never be separated from it, our sins will create a divide between us.
Delighting ourselves in Him can prevent our choosing sin. Wow! That would be cool. To be able to say no to the things that tempt? Sign me up!
Let’s start today. Let’s choose to move a little closer to the Father. Let’s open His Word and ask Him to show us what He wants us to know. Let’s ask the Spirit to teach us how to delight in our Maker.
