How to Be Prosperous and Successful

In my high school World Geography class, I studied the material and learned the facts, but I have to say that once that final was done, once I turned that book back in, most of the facts were gone. Not retained in my mind. They weren’t something I held as important to my life.

I loved English, with all the grammar rules and the stories of literature. Learning that was easy, and I’ve retained most of what I learned, but to be perfectly honest, I have to go back and relearn many of the things I learned and forgot.

We remember what we feel is important and relevant to us. Even if we learn those important, relevant things, if we don’t keep reinforcing them, they fade in our minds. If we don’t enact the principles, we don’t retain them.

Believer, this is why we read scripture over and over. This is why we open the Book day in and day out. This is why we obey what it says. While we find all that is in it necessary, important, and relevant to our lives, we forget or we remember incorrectly.

It is important to refill our minds with the Truth so that we live our lives well.

We won’t know God’s will for us outside the scripture.
We won’t have true wisdom outside the scripture.
We won’t recognize the lies of the enemy outside the scripture.
We won’t have the connection to the Living Water outside the scripture.

And do you see the last part of the verse? We won’t have prosperity and success outside the scripture!

But Faye! There are lots of rich, successful people who don’t even own a Bible!

Yes, you’re right. By the human measure of prosperity and success, they have both.

We who are followers of Jesus have a different measure, though. We are to measure our prosperity and success in the scales of the Kingdom of God, where spiritual things far outweigh the physical. Our wealth includes our heavenly bank accounts and our level of success is measured by the fruit we’ve produced.

Today is the best day ever to begin this new habit.
Study the Book continually—day by day.
Meditate on it throughout the day—think about what it says Obey what the Book says.
As you do these things, you can expect the prosperity and success only God can provide.

Coffee, Bible, Journal.
