How to Get on and Remain on Your Path of Purpose

Scripture tells believers to be in the world but not of the world. Seems easy enough, right? If we’re saved, we’re good.

Except we’re not.

Have you ever spent time with a Christian and realized that he or she is no different than the guy who says he doesn’t believe in God and wants nothing to do with Him?

There are varied reasons why this happens in our lives, but it boils down to we walked off our path of purpose, didn’t realize it, and had no direction how to get back on it and stay on it.

Apostle Paul understood this. He wrote these words to Timothy, a young man he mentored: “All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.”

When we take the time to step aside from
the chaos of life to consume scripture,
we learn what is true,
realize there is wrong in our lives,
feel the correction that gets us back on the path,
and receive the instructions for
how to remain on that path.

We humans don’t like the correction part, though. We don’t like thinking that Someone else sets the rules or that we’ve done something wrong. We balk. And then we tend to avoid that which tells us we’re wrong.

If we don’t consume the scripture, we don’t even recognize when we’ve stepped off our path, much less care about how to get back on it and stay there. The world draws us off the path. The enemy of our souls doesn’t want us living out the purpose for which God created us.

You may not know your unique purpose yet, but you can know right now that as a believer, your overarching purpose is to glorify God. Daily consumption of the scriptures will show you how to do that and even introduce you to the unique purpose for which you were divinely designed.

It’s okay if you’re not a Bible scholar.
God said His word goes out and completes its task—
no matter who is reading it.

Choose you and your purpose today. Choose to read—really read—the Bible every day. Let it in, let it show you what is true, what is wrong in your life, show you the way back onto your God-designed path, and instruct you how to remain on that path.
