Go to the Light!

An attribute is a quality or characteristic for which a person is known. We're going to explore several attributes of God over the next few weeks. I'm glad you're joining us!

God is light. In Him is no darkness at all. So, all around Him is light, right? It’s like, you need sunglasses to even look at Him, right?

Well… it’s actually deeper than that. Much deeper. Throughout scripture, light is used to reveal the difference between righteousness and wickedness.

Proverbs 4:18 says, The way of the righteous is like the first gleam of dawn, which shines ever brighter until the full light of day. The righteous are portrayed as Light. Philippians 2:15 reminds believers to shine like bright lights. Jesus told His followers to let their good works shine forth as lights so the world would see and glorify God as recorded in Matthew 5:16.

The words just after today’s focus verse reveal that darkness portrays the wicked — those who are not God’s righteousness in Christ. So we are lying if we say we have fellowship with God but go on living in spiritual darkness; we are not practicing the truth. If we live in spiritual darkness, the dark‬‬ness where God is not, we are living in the way of the wicked.

As believers in Jesus, the True Light,
we join Him in that light.
We are not the light, Jesus is,
but we are filled with His light
and can shine forth so that others can see God.

Have you ever walked in total darkness? Years ago on a camping trip in a national park, our tent was set up some distance from the bathroom, and of course, during the night, I had to take that walk. The non-LED flashlight beam seemed so bright as I walked across rocks, dirt, and grass to the concrete sidewalk! The night sounds were the normal crickets and jar flies until I turned onto the sidewalk, when a loud, deep-throated HOOT! sounded just above my head. Talk about scary! I walked a lot faster toward the building, knowing what was there was not after me, but fearing nonetheless.

Because God is light, we can see. Truly see. God dispels the darkness. Yes, we can see that darkness exists just outside the circle of light we are in, but that evil cannot encroach where the Light — God — is.

In the Light, we can see Truth that is unfailing. We can see where lies and deceit lurk to trip us up. We can walk confidently, taking one step at a time, each step revealed by the One who designed the path for us.

In the Light, we can live freely, experiencing hope and joy that the wickedness of the enemy works hard to destroy.

Every moment we have a choice to stand still in fear of the darkness or live fully and free in the Light.

Run to the Light, Believer, and live noonday-shadow close to the Father in whom there is no darkness at all. He is pure love, pure truth, pure righteousness. Always. Go to Him and be secure.

Coffee, Bible, Journal.
