When we say someone or something is perfect, we mean that it is without flaw or mistake. It satisfies all requirements and has no defects. Think about that in relation to God.
We know He is perfect, because the Book says so in Matthew 5:48, “But you are to be perfect, even as your Father in heaven is perfect.” God is perfect. He lacks no essential detail. He is all, has all, and knows all in order to be perfect all the time. No flaws.
Oh, I know. There are those who think God has made mistakes. They think He has blown it by acting the way He did or by not acting at all. The thing is, those who say those things have little idea of the results God is working toward or the process He is taking to get there.
I mean, really, who would send their son to prove Himself God, then be tortured and murdered just to redeem the ones who tortured and murdered Him? What kind of insanity is that???
That’s God’s perfection at work, and for the most part, we will never fully understand it. Why? Because we are NOT perfect. Not even close. We are flawed from birth, even those of us the doctor declared as the most perfect baby he ever delivered.
Our thoughts are not perfect. Who can flip from blessing someone to cursing them in a heartbeat based on new information? That’s us, not God.
Understanding this attribute of God is essential to our faith. We can sorta, kinda, believe that He is all-powerful, all-knowing, and ever-present and have the faith to trust Him, but we must be solid on the truth that He is perfect or we will doubt.
Faith doesn’t entertain doubt. Questions, yes. Doubt, no.
With doubt, we cannot truly believe that God is perfect and holy and we are not, which means we aren’t able to be in relationship with Him. With the doubt about God’s perfection, we see no reason to surrender to Him to have a relationship with Him. With that doubt, we see no need for salvation. With that doubt, we see no need for Jesus.
Today is the day to examine you. Do you fully believe that God is perfect in all His ways? Do you believe completely that God is who He says He is and will do what He says He will do? Do you agree that whether you believe God is perfect, He is?
If you consider yourself a follower of Jesus and struggle with admitting that God is perfect all the time in every circumstance, it’s time to revisit your faith in Him. Ask God to reveal to you what you need to know about Him. Take all your questions to Him and ask Him to show you what you need to believe about His perfection. Don’t wait!
