The law of the Lord is outdated

“The laws/instructions of the Lord are perfect? They seem really restrictive and really outdated. We’ve changed a lot in the time since all that was written.”

What we forget is that while mankind HAS changed, Almighty God has NOT.

He is still completely holy. He is utterly perfect. He is pure and righteous and love. He is sovereign over all.

We get confused when we think that love means letting us have our own way. Love doesn’t let us redefine what is sin and what it is not. The consequences are too great and God loves us too much to not give us these instructions that will prevent our eternal destruction.

Yes, eternal. This may sound harsh. It feels harsh to say, but I believe it must be said.

When a person enters a real salvation relationship with Jesus, we are told that the old sinful person has been changed into a whole new creation. The taste for the old life, the sins of the past, is destroyed.

When we are born again, as Jesus talked to Nicodemus about, the Spirit of God moves into us to provide comfort, correction, and guidance. When we inch close to sin, He lets us know immediately. We are wise when we heed those warnings and step back.

We’re not always wise, though, are we?

Sometimes we ignore the warnings and push right on through to do what God has said is wrong, often justifying it with the “it’s outdated thinking” argument.

I believe that when we ignore the Holy Spirit repeatedly, our senses become dull and calloused over until we no longer hear or sense His promptings.

It makes sense to me that there are some who call themselves Christian who have never experienced salvation in Christ Jesus, evidenced by the lack of change in their lives. Their taste for the sinful walk is never diminished and they never turn to God’s ways, just use His name.

Believer, I challenge you today to examine yourself. Test your ways. If you look at God’s laws and do any tweaking of them whatsoever to make them more palatable, I urge you to ask God for forgiveness and turn from that.

His laws are perfect and trustworthy. Always. All ways.
