Your name won’t work

Hear O Believer! The Lord our God is one! (My revised Shema. The Shema is the words from Deuteronomy 6:4 spoken daily by observant Jews and believers alike for thousands of years.)

Today we’re looking at words spoken by the apostle Peter in his very first message. He was speaking to thousands of people and over 3,000 of them became believers because of the message.

Today I turned to the Orthodox Jewish Bible to compare the English words and came away with chills and excitement. Let me explain.

“And there is no Yeshu’at Eloheinu in any other, for there is no other Shem under Shomayim that has been given among Bnei Adam, by which it is necessary for you to be spared the Mishpat Hashem in the Yom HaDin.”

What our Bibles translate as “salvation” is “Yeshu’at Eloheinu.” Yeshua transliterates to Jesus in English and Eloheinu is the singular of Elohim. The same Elohim we see in Genesis 1:1. Do you see it?

Our Savior doesn’t just BRING us salvation, He IS salvation!

Next, “no other Shem” – did you know Shem = name? It can also be “renown.” No name, renowned or not, other than Yeshua/Jesus. “Shomayim” is heaven, used throughout the Book.

“B’nei Adam” is children of Adam — that’s us. All of humankind.

And that last part? “…the Mishpat Hashem in the Yom HaDin.” Mishpat Hashem is “judgment of God” and “Yom HaDin” is “Judgment Day.”

So… Faye’s interpretation: Jesus God is the only salvation, no other name or person under heaven will be able to spare mankind from God’s judgment on that great and terrible Day of Judgment. There is no condemnation in that, only the powerful truth that God wants all mankind to understand.

We all have a choice to make. None of us wants to suffer God’s wrath on that Day. We want to be spared it. Many think there are all sorts of ways to avoid that, to be spared it, but the Spirit of God spoke through Peter to set that record straight. We aren’t going to be good enough, do enough kind and generous things. We will escape that judgment only through Jesus, our salvation. We all have a choice to make. May it be the right one. #ChooseWell
