The Dominion of Darkness

What does “dominion” mean?
Merriam-Webster dictionary defines it as:
The power to rule.
Supreme authority.
Absolute ownership.

Paul wrote to the believers in Colossae about their rescue from the Dominion of Darkness by Jesus, saying that He not only rescued them from the ownership of Darkness, sin, and evil, but that He transferred those believers into His kingdom.

Well….. that’s nice. So what?

Let’s try to make this more real:

Before salvation, we were OWNED by sin, evil…
The Darkness.
Yes, we were slaves to it.
Even when we thought we were
good girls and boys,
The Darkness owned us,
told us where to go, what to do,
and we did it.

Oh, I know. The evil one is really slick and we didn’t realize we were being led deeper into the evil of his black purposes. It felt good and it looked good. We thought it was good.

Except it wasn’t.

That path leads to death, pure and simple. Not just physical death, but spiritual, eternal death. Death where our choice to be separated from God is made permanent for eternity and the mask The Darkness has worn is ripped away and the reality of the evil becomes known.

God knows all about The Darkness and its lies. He knows the ways and purposes of The Darkness, and He sent Jesus to transfer us from The Darkness into His Light. Upon our salvation, our ownership was removed from The Darkness and settled in the hands of The Savior. We are no longer slaves to The Darkness.

As followers of Jesus, we have been set free from the evil that looks so good but leads to death and now live as a beloved member of the Kingdom of God that is truly good and leads to life and more life.

That’s worth celebrating!!!

We have a choice: Life or Death. Light or Darkness.

God won’t choose for us. This one’s all on us.
Today is the day. Make your forever choice.
