Many of us are familiar with Jeremiah 29:11, where God told the people of Israel that He knew the plans He had for them, plans for good, not disaster – to give them a future and a hope.
We like that. We like thinking God will do the same for us, and I’m sure He will.
Thing is, in our microwave society with attention spans like gnats, we don’t take in the whole of the Book. If we read just two verses beyond the future and hope, we see that God promised that IF the people would search for Him WHOLEHEARTEDLY, they would FIND Him.
Oh, Believer! What an amazing promise of Almighty God!
We must recognize that there is a requirement in that, though. It is an if-then declaration. Requirement-reward.
We must search for Him wholeheartedly.
Like, undistractedly.
Like, without wavering.
Like, priority.
That means seeking Him, not the words of others. God gave us this amazing Book that tells us not only about Him, but the best way for us to live. It is in this Book that we will find Almighty God.
Many like to say that they find Him in nature. Some say it’s in gathering with others. The places told of where to find Him are as varied as the people speaking.
The truth is, He can be found in nature or in gatherings or in other places, but the WAY He is found for all of those is the same. It is through seeking God wholeheartedly through the Word of God that we find Him. Where He reveals Himself is up to Him.
Have you been going to the forest/beach/mountains/wherever to find God without seeking Him in the scriptures? Please, be careful. The truth is found in the pages of His Word, not in rustling leaves alone. Don’t get me wrong. I have had several experiences where I have spent time in the Word, reading and praying, seeking Him, seeking answers, then a walk in the woods revealed Him and His answer. It always took searching for Him in the Book first. Searching without the scriptures can lead to false answers and false revelations. Be wise.
Do you desire to know the God of creation better? To know the One who rescued you through salvation more fully? To understand more of the Savior who died for your sins, then rose again?
Open the Book. Read full chapters. Spend wholehearted time there. Ask God to reveal Himself to you. Then wait. Don’t run off to the next thing, wait. Be wholeheartedly patient. As you are faithful in your search for Him, He is faithful to be found by you.
Let’s start today seeking Him with everything in us. Let’s make that a priority. At every turn when we can make a decision about doing something, let’s seek Him. And let’s watch closely as He reveals Himself to us, then praise Him for that and seek Him even more.
