“I just can’t get this living a godly life thing down. God’s just going to have to accept that I can’t do it.”
Yeah…. No.
God has given us everything we need for living a godly life.
Everything we need. For living a godly life. Everything.
Remember Philippians 2:13? God even provides to us the will, the longing, to live the godly life.
So why aren’t we?
The pull of the enemy is strong. He uses subtle tactics and tools. One of the biggest is our flesh, our comfort.
It’s so much easier to lean back in the recliner than to go and work out. It’s much easier to have that dessert than to say no. It’s much easier to choose to do things my way than it is to do them God’s way.
Except, in these words from Peter, God debunks that theory. It’s not easier, because He has provided every tool, every tactic, even the desire, to live His way. It just feels better in the short term to answer to our comfort.
Everyone who has a relationship with God through the salvation found in the sacrifice of Jesus has all that is needed to live this life of godliness. Most of us just need to dust the everything off and put it to practice in our lives.
We must choose to stop living to satisfy the insatiable self and start living to satisfy the infinite God.
By the way, God didn’t call you to Himself so you could be comfortable. Not now. Jesus said we would face trials and tribulations. He said the indignities He endured would be ours as well. He also said we would be able to do all He did and then some.
We need to get up off our comfort and get to work living the life Jesus died for us to have. We must choose in every situation to be the person He died for us to be. We must recognize that in every moment we get to glorify Him with our lives then choose to do so.
We have everything we need. For our good and His glory.
Let’s get to living!
