It’s time we recognize the Good & Perfect

Those amazing moments you had last week? From God.

Those adorable (and sometimes not so much) children you have? From God.

That helpful, kind, and loving spouse? Yep. From God.

EVERY good and perfect gift comes from God Himself. Think of it as something He handpicked just for you because He loves you.

We don’t often recognize the parking space close to the store on a hot summer or freezing winter day as a gift from God, but it’s good, right?

What about the traffic that kept you out of that horrid wreck you passed later? Really good!

Does that mean that He doesn’t love you when He doesn’t give you those gifts over and over? Are you serious? Do you get gifts every day from every person who loves you? No. How mundane those gifts would become, to the point of us not receiving them as gifts.

I do believe, though, that God gives us gifts all the time and we don’t recognize them as gifts. A bright yellow flower in a sea of green grass. Ribbons of pink in a sunrise sky. The giggle of a child – ours or not. The compassion of a grandchild maturing in his faith.

And the greatest gift, of course, is Jesus. When we were way less than deserving, God gave His Son, His one and only Son, as the sacrifice for our sins – and we had plenty, even as children – so we would never have to suffer that penalty. THE PERFECT GIFT!

Just as wonderful is the fact that God is always the same. Every day. Every moment. The same God that Abram knew, we know. We don’t have to wonder if He’s had a bad day and ready to smack us down or if He’s having a good day and will give us everything we want.

God is God. He’s always the same. His Law is always the same. His grace is always the same. His truth is always the same, and we never have to wonder. He made sure it was all written down for us to use throughout our lives.

How about today we slow down enough to recognize those good and perfect gifts from Him and mention it, whether just to ourselves or to someone else. See the gift, say the gift. Look for these good and perfect gifts and thank Him for them — especially that big gift of Jesus.

Coffee, Bible, Journal.
