What job should I take?
What house should I buy?
Where should I live?
Should I marry him/her?
So many huge decisions to be made that can determine the whole course of our lives—how do we make wise ones?
The term “overthinking” has become a catchphrase lately, mainly because so many do it. We feel like we have to have every contingency planned for before we step into a decision, and what usually happens is that we never make a decision, which IS a decision. The hamster wheel rolls on.
The job is filled, the house is sold, where to live is decided for you, and your dream spouse has moved on.
That’s frustrating! We wanted the possible outcome of that decision, but we just couldn’t get past all the what-ifs in time to make that decision work.
What if we followed the advice of Proverbs 3:5-6 all the time? Big decisions and small?
What if we believed that God is good all the time and is working all things out for our good—even when they’re uncomfortable?
What if we stopped thinking we get to control life and then surrendered to God?
What if the path we’re to follow became clear to us? Not the whole thing, not all the contingencies, just the starting point? What if we stepped onto that path and began the journey and as we walk, more of the path becomes clear?
What if we trusted God for everything and stopped trusting our fallible human understanding that operates on limited information?
Let’s make a choice today, Believer. Let’s actually trust God for it all. Let’s believe He’s the One with the map of our path and that He loves us too much to let us wander. Let’s get moving into the life He designed for us.
Especially when we don’t know the next step, let’s trust Him for it.
