Get the Appropriate and Well-Timed Help You Need

What does it mean that we can come boldly to God’s throne to receive mercy and grace? Is it that we can just pop in on God anytime and He’ll do what we ask?

Yeah, not quite.

Generally, when a monarch reigns, that person is unapproachable by any except a very select few. As in, to approach without permission would mean that person’s death. There would be no popping in to make a request of any sort.

We see in the Jewish tabernacle and subsequent temple that God’s throne is unapproachable by anyone except the high priest and only at a certain time after going through a rigorous cleansing and purification process. No popping in for the average Jane or Joe.

Jesus’ sinless life, death, burial, resurrection, and ascension changed that for us. He is now our High Priest. Through salvation, we are afforded permission to enter His presence and come boldly to His throne.

However, God is not a cosmic vending machine into which we throw our coin-prayers, push a button and get what we choose.

God is Sovereign over all. There is nothing in creation over which He does not have authority and power. He alone knows what is right and good for every situation and all involved. He knows all the moving pieces and all the players. He makes every decision with full understanding that we can’t begin to comprehend.

Yet, He allows us entrance to Him. He invites us into His presence. He calls us to come and visit with Him, to get to know Him, to experience His love, mercy, and grace—all given in the right doses at the right time for our good and His glory.

Maybe you’ve not been spending time at the throne, bowed down in worship of the One seated there. Maybe you haven’t recognized His sovereignty. Maybe you have used your prayers like spare change. Maybe you are passionate about the time your spend with Him, seeking His will, and reveling in the truth that He loves you and shows you His mercy and grace.

Wherever you are in your faithwalk, God invites you today to come fearlessly and confidently to His throne of unmerited favor to you. He invites you to share with Him your heart—gratitude, joy, happiness, fear, anxiety, sorrow—and receive His mercy for your failures and His appropriate and well-timed help that comes just when you need it most.

Today’s your day. Let’s do this!

Coffee, Bible, Journal.
