Are you paying attention???

Doesn’t this meerkat seem to be repeating what Paul said?

Be ALERT! Pay ATTENTION!
PRAY! Be PERSISTENT in prayer!

This order comes just after Apostle Paul shares about spiritual armor, the kind no one sees, but believers experience. This armor protects the spirit and soul of the believer from every onslaught of the enemy against his or her soul.

Pray in the Spirit. Ooh, how many of us do that? How many of us just charge into prayer time, express our litany of gratitude, requests, intercession, and zip, we’re gone? When do we slow down enough to slip into God’s presence and allow His Spirit to guide our prayers? Perhaps it’s time for us to work on this?

Pray on every occasion. Like, E V E R Y? If I’m praying on every occasion, I’m not going to get much done! Yet, if we keep our hearts and minds tuned to God, aligned with His will, we will be in prayer on every occasion. Thing is, we must actually do that – tune in to and align ourselves with Him. Then, no matter what comes our way, we’ll be praying.

Stay alert. Scripture tells us the enemy roams around like a roaring lion. That’s not so bad, right? I mean, if we hear the roar, we can escape, right? A few minutes of watching a documentary on the behavior of lions will reveal that while the lion that CAN roar won’t do so constantly. He won’t roar until he is ready, and that is NOT while he’s on the hunt. He’s stealthy and his goal is to devour. He roars to frighten us, but finding a place to hide isn’t a forever thing. We must stay alert to see where he’s coming from next.

Be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere. So, we should pray for the persecuted believers in other countries? Got it! We should also pray for the believers down the street who worship differently than we do. We should pray for the church across town that is planning an event to draw people to the Kingdom of God. We should pray for believers we learn of who have stumbled, who are struggling, who are sick or in need. We should pray for ALL believers EVERYWHERE.

It boils down to this:

  • PUT ON your armor.
  • PREPARE for the battle.
  • STAND FIRM in your faith and pray like never before.
  • PRAY in the Spirit.
  • PRAY at every opportunity – on every occasion.
  • STAY ALERT.
  • PRAY PERSISTENTLY for other believers – all of them, no matter where they are, how they look, or how they worship.

Let’s get started today. Ready?
