Name it! Claim it! Have it? No.

Tell God what you want, believe you have it, and it’s yours! Name it. Claim it. Have it!

NOT!

If that were the case, don’t you know Jesus would have never had a crown of thorns placed on His head? That He wouldn’t have taken a beating that would kill most men? That there would have been no cross to carry through the streets of Jerusalem up Golgotha’s hill? His prayer in the garden would have been answered, and the cup of wrath over our sins would have passed Him right on by. It did not.

Jesus asked for what He wanted. He believed it could be His. He was God, for goodness’ sake! Still, that desire, that want, was not to be because it was not the Father’s will.

God is not a cosmic vending machine where we put in the coins of our belief and out pop our most desired things.

He is God Almighty who created us and knows the very best for us. Beyond that, He has a plan for us and far too often, our wants and desires are contrary to those plans. When we allow God to change our hearts, they become aligned with His and the dissonance between our desire and His disappears.

I believe my husband’s near-fatal brain aneurysm was part of the plan for us. People saw God work in that situation and the faith that carried us both through. Hearts and minds have been changed because that happened – even the doctors and nurses.

Through that long first night, I prayed for supernatural healing. Not to be. God had other plans. I learned to pray, “thy will be done” even as I wept at the thought of losing my beloved. My prayer was that Jack would be healed. This time he was healed here on earth, but I knew fully that it could have been in heaven instead.

That kind of prayer is not easy, but it’s what Jesus did, so it’s what we can do. It’s what we must do. It’s the kind of prayer that, backed with our faith, will become reality.

Let’s start our prayers today with “your will be done, O God” and believe that He will act within that will. Let’s be amazed and glorify God as our heart’s desire becomes reality.
