Not my usual Sunday morning offering, but this is such a powerful verse for the time we’re living, I have to share. Did you know that Jesus never said our lives would be smooth sailing? He said there would be struggles. Then like today’s TV salesmen, he says, “BUT WAIT!” And oh, what a “but wait” it is! Rest in it, my friends!
Before I leave, allow me to share with you the Amplified Bible’s translation of the original language. Did you know that one word in Hebrew or Greek can mean a whole phrase in English? Yep. Thus, Amplified.
I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have perfect peace and confidence. In the world you have tribulation and trials and distress and frustration; but be of good cheer – take courage; be confident, certain, undaunted! For I have overcome the world. I have deprived it of power to harm you and have conquered it for you.
Note: “be of good cheer” doesn’t mean “be happy about it”! It means that in the face of whatever tribulation, trial, distress, and frustration, take COURAGE! Be CONFIDENT! Remain CERTAIN! Continue UNDAUNTED! Your Savior has deprived the world of all power to harm you. He has conquered it FOR you.
Rejoice! Rest. Live.
