Who will you give yourself to today?

The psalmist asked God to allow him to hear of God’s unfailing love every morning. Why would that be? I mean, couldn’t he remember from one day to the next?

Do you?

The day begins and before you know it, arguments and fusses commence with lost socks, lost keys, and time ticking past too quickly. The last thing on our minds is the unfailing love of God. Instead, it’s the circumstances happening all around us. The truth of God is drowned out by traffic, news, social media, kids whining, spouses asking, and meals that must be prepared.

This is why we must have that daily reminder, and who better to ask for that than from God Himself? Taking the time each day to open the Book and learn of the Almighty is an excellent practice. It’s like filling up the gas tank before heading out on a long road trip. You know you need to in order to make the best progress to get where you’re going.

Part of that daily habit should include asking God to show you where to step, because often the places that look the safest and most secure are the ones that are the least so.

To me, these elements are of great importance, but I think the most important part of this verse is the last: “I give myself to You.”

We humans are all about control. We don’t want anyone to see us falter or fail. We don’t want to seem lost. We don’t want to appear to not have it all together. We drink, drug, eat, and otherwise anesthetize the stress this causes. If we would only let go the illusion that we control anything and give ourselves completely to God, we could experience the peace that comes from allowing Him to direct our path, our decisions, our wishes, wants, and desires.

Will you say this today? “God, I give myself to You” and mean it? Will you repeat it throughout the day when you sense yourself retaking the reins of your life? Will you choose stress and anxiety or peace and joy? Up to you.
