Seeking the Lord means finding Him. Finding Him means you change. Absolutely it does.
Why?
Because when we have a glimpse into His true being, His absolute, objective holiness, we feel the stain of our sin, our choices of self over God, our desires for our own comforts and wishes instead of His. And once we have that glimpse, that taste of Him, if you will, we want more. We want to draw closer.
To draw closer means shedding all the stuff that makes us unclean and ineligible to enter His presence.
But, that doesn’t sound fun or comfortable or even something I’d remotely want, Faye. Why would I seek Him?
I get it. Making choices that benefit us, that keep us on the throne of our lives is enjoyable. We feel good, at least for the moment, but those choices put us at odds with the Creator, and ultimately, the choice of self over Him chooses an eternity without Him to match the earthly life without Him.
Oh, this life now without God isn’t so bad you say? Cool. I hear you. Trouble is, you get to enjoy His touch right now. God inhabits believers, and His presence is tangible when two or more of them gather together. So, even though you’re denying Him and choosing yourself over Him, you get to experience Him in the love, kindness, patience, and gentleness of others.
In eternity to come, the one you step into when death visits, there is no presence of God at all. No kindness, no goodness, no love, no joy, no peace, no faithfulness, no gentleness, no patience, no self-control. None at all. All those are characteristics of the Almighty and will not be present in the eternal place of torment chosen by denying Him.
The good news is, there is a way to change, and it’s not a checklist or a program to follow. It’s simple: surrender to the Lord Jesus, accepting His sacrifice for you on the Cross of Calvary, believing and declaring the truth of His burial and resurrection on the third day as your redemption and restoration.
No magic. Just Jesus. Turn to the Lord so that He will have mercy on you. He forgives generously and is waiting for you.
Your choice: self or God. #ChooseWell
Oh, and Believer, this message isn’t just for unbelievers. We tend to choose self over Him sometimes. That’s when it’s crucial that we right ourselves and get back on the path with Him. Don’t hesitate!
