Walk to the Light

Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.”

So, why do we walk in so much darkness? Depression, discouragement, loneliness, fear…

Let’s reread. Jesus didn’t say you WON’T WALK in darkness. He said you won’t HAVE TO walk in darkness.

The reason is that we have the Light. He is with us, in us.

Okay, Faye. That’s great. It doesn’t do a thing for the depression and anxiety I feel.

I hear you. Been there. The pit was crumbling in on top of me. UNTIL…

I read my Bible most days then. I prayed. I even did a Beth Moore Bible study. It wasn’t until I cried out to God in complete helplessness and surrender that I was able to see the Light.

See, the enemy didn’t want me to see the Light and certainly didn’t want me connected to Him. He had a clue the purpose God created me for and was working overtime to squash that – to keep me from it.

When I cried out with that surrendered heart, no longer believing that I could fix it, that I could handle it, God began to move on my behalf. I caught a glimpse of the Light and I kept striving to see Him more and more.

Now, hear me: my depression was not clinical, nor caused by other illness. Mine was a result of buried hurts and anger.

Yours may be clinical and won’t react the same as mine, but I fully believe that your complete surrender to the Lord will shine the Light in the darkness you feel and help you navigate through it. Light always dispels darkness. Don’t toss your meds. God created doctors to help you, but let your faith in and surrender be to Jesus and not the doctor.

The same holds true for anxiety, discouragement, and loneliness. Open you up to hear from Him. Agree with Him that you are utterly helpless to fix the issues you struggle with. Surrender all of you to Him and look for the Light.

When you accepted Christ’s sacrificial gift of salvation, the Light became yours, never to leave or forsake you. And He hasn’t.

Sometimes, though, we let stuff crowd Him out of first place in our lives. We forget to let Him be the filter for everything that comes to us. We cover over the Light so that He isn’t ‘bothering’ us as we handle the world on our own.

There is no better day than today to make the changes we should to see the Light and walk in Him instead of dwelling in the darkness.

Give up my friend. You can’t do it. God can. Maybe you should let Him.

Coffee, Bible, Journal.
