How many times have you tried to do this whole Christian walk thing on your own, ticking off checkboxes and meeting expectations? How many times has that fallen apart? The unmarked checkboxes grow faster than minutes tick by, the expectations remain, even when met?
We can’t do it on our own.
Paul encourages working hard to show the results of our salvation and to obey God with deep reverence and fear. Then he wrote that God is working in us, providing the desire and the power to do what pleases Him.
Think about that.
The very desire to obey God comes FROM GOD!
It’s not something we dig up, conjure,
or birth on our own.
It’s all God.
On top of that, He provides the power to be able to please Him. What???? YES! We human-type people just can’t be pleasing to God on our own. We are so fallible, and He knows that, so He gives us a power we can’t manufacture or imitate—the strength, mindset, and ability to obey God with great reverence and fear.
Throw out the checklist, Believer. Ditch the human expectations. Tune in to God’s expectations and listen to His Spirit as He guides you left or right, go or stop, in order to get in and remain in His will.
Rest in the truth that you don’t have to do it all because God already has. Lean in. Lean on. Trust.
