How many times have you heard someone use these words almost like a talisman—a verse pulled from the Book to approve their message?

Jesus was explaining to his disciples just how powerful their prayer connection to God is. They were amazed that the fig tree He had cursed the day before was dead. He explained that their power through prayer was equivalent to His.

Where we get in trouble with these words is when we take them out of the context of Jesus. See, Jesus always spoke in God’s will because He is God.

We’re not God and we actually don’t spend a lot of time speaking or praying in His will. We’re just that fallible. It’s only through the blood of Jesus that we get to come to His throne to make requests anyway.

Jesus said, “I tell you, you can pray for anything, and if you believe that you’ve received it, it will be yours.”

That isn’t a secret code. It’s not a special key given to believers. It’s not a talisman. It’s a truth.

Always seek the Lord as you pray. Always. Believe in what He wants for you and your life and accept those blessings as fact as you pray for them.

My practice has become to pray for my request, then begin to thank Him for it as though it’s already a thing of the past.

Let’s start today. First seek God’s will. Then pray, believing that request is already fulfilled. Finally, thank Him for it. Keep believing, because sometimes, we don’t see with our eyes what our faith has known for a while.
