Shift from seeking a full belly to seeking a full heart and soul

You know this isn’t literally saying to stop buying groceries, right? Yeah. This is calling us to corrected vision.

We are to eat for health. (I know that many years I ate for pleasure and self-medication. That’s a whole other conversation!) We work hard, long hours to either make the money to purchase the food we eat or we work hard, long hours to grow the food we eat. Either way, we have a huge investment in that sustenance: time and/or money.

Thing is, once we consume that food, our body retrieves the nutrition it can use, then the rest is processed into waste. Gone.

Even as a soothing medication, it is gone in brief moments.

Isaiah was prophesying of a coming food and water that would be a permanent solution to our hunger and thirst. That would later be revealed in Jesus, the One who came to satisfy our deepest needs and longings. NO, that does not mean that we eat His actual flesh or drink His actual blood.

What that means is that we change our heart-focus. We shift from seeking a full belly to seeking a full heart and soul. One gives a couple hours comfort and peace while the other gives an eternity of both and more – love, joy, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness, and self-control.

What we eat is incredibly important to our physical and mental health. What we focus our hearts and minds on is incredibly important to our spiritual and emotional health. We must choose well, which becomes the answer to the question Isaiah asked. What are you spending your money, time, and energy on, and why?

Enjoy that steak or pizza or vegetarian/vegan meal, but don’t expect it to provide the rescue, restoration, comfort, or joy that comes only through a salvation relationship with Jesus.

Coffee, Bible, Journal.
