Righteous or Practicing Evil?

“For the eyes of the Lord are upon the righteous (those who are upright and in right standing with God), and His ears are attentive to their prayer. But the face of the Lord is against those who practice evil [to oppose them, to frustrate, and defeat them].” (Amplified Version)

Oh dear! I’m not righteous! God will never have His eyes on me or be attentive to MY prayers. I’m doomed.

Nope. As a believer, you ARE righteous. Not because of your good behavior or your deeds. You’re righteous because Jesus traded His righteousness for your unrighteousnes on the Cross. He lifted all the stuff that kept you from God and placed it on Himself while lifting His perfect righteousness from Him and placed it on you. This is the amazing transaction of salvation.

As a believer, upright and in right standing with God, you can know that His eyes ARE on you. Watching, accepting, and loving, like the parent He is. You can be sure that just like a mother hears her own child’s cries in a crowd of children, HIS ears are attentive to YOUR prayers. He hears you. He leans in to you. He answers you (even when the answer isn’t something we want, it is an answer).

“Those who practice evil” does not mean only devil worshippers, satanists, or witches. These are people who have set themselves against God by choosing other gods to worship. Those gods may be gods adored by others or self, worshipped by one.

We who are believers need to understand that God is against those who are against Him. He will oppose, frustrate, and defeat them.

We often think the opposing, frustrating, and defeating is our job. We don’t have to worry about that, though. That’s on God’s task list, we can mark it as done on ours.

If we who are upright and righteous would live and walk as though we believe that, the world around us would notice. Those who practice evil would see. They would recognize the hand of the Almighty and be faced with the decision to follow Him or follow their evil choices.

Our decision is already made. We who are believers have chosen to follow Jesus and leave our evil choices behind. It’s time to stand upright, to realize our righteousness in Christ, and to live for Him believing all He says about us.
