Out of Control Thoughts

How many times a day do our thoughts get out of control?

What-ifs steal all our peace and annihilate our joy.

Anxiety over what-has-been and what-is-to come ruins our right now.

Thoughts of shoulda, coulda, woulda take over and remove us from the present when we can make a difference in our own lives as well as the lives of others.

Blame and shame take over and destroy our minds and our relationships.

HOW DO WE MAKE IT STOP?????

The solution is so simple it’s ridiculously difficult:

Turn to God.

When we begin that turn to Him, take that one step toward Him, He takes God-sized steps toward us.

When that happens, His presence becomes real to us. The reality of Who He Is takes over, banishing all the hurts, fears, anxieties, and self-destructive thoughts rattling around and around in our hearts and minds.

When those thoughts stop their incessant circling, the joy is overwhelming. When the rattle of the what-ifs stops, the peaceful silence is deafening, and we experience calm that we know is not our normal.

As we bask in that calm, that peace and joy found only in His presence, we might begin to giggle. We might begin to dance. We might weep. We WILL delight, because we will recognize the relief of moving from where we were to where we are.

Maybe today, when it feels like life and news are more than overwhelming, we can give this a try.

Instead of grasping our aching heads in despair, let’s call out to the Creator. Let’s ask Him to take over our thoughts and feelings. Let’s ask Him for Truth. Let’s admit we are absolutely powerless over all these things and ask Him to take over.

Then, let’s bask in amazement as He does that. Let’s revel in the beauty of life given by God and lived for Him. Let’s relish our next breath as one breathed in peace and joy because He is God and we are not.
