Okay, you’re afraid. Now what?

Are you afraid?
In this worldwide virus situation, many are. It’s understandable. We are scared of the unknown.

The shepherd-grown-into-king wrote, “When I am afraid, I will trust in You.”

Note that’s not IF I am afraid. It’s WHEN. As in, it WILL happen. As in, I’m not immune to being afraid.

I’m sure that when David faced the lions and bears that wanted to destroy his family’s flocks, that first sound in the brush was frightening.

I’ve loved camping in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Once we were in a tent in a walk-in site. The bathroom building was a bit of a walk and I had to visit it late one night. The campground was so quiet. I could hear the leaves brushing in the trees. Just as I turned up the path to the building, an owl hooted and I about jumped out of my skin. It sounded like it was just off my left shoulder! I knew that owls didn’t hunt humans, that I was way too big for him to carry off, but I was still afraid. My steps quickened and I double checked before I left the bathroom building.

We WILL be afraid at times. It’s how God designed us — to be afraid and do something about what has scared us.

There’s the sticky spot. What will we do when we’re afraid? David rushed forward and killed the attackers of the sheep. He refused to give up and trusted God to take care of him. This mindset carried through as he battled Goliath, ran from Saul, and battled Israel’s enemies.

What will you do when you are afraid? Think about it now. Make up your mind today. It will be easier to do what you’ve planned when the time comes and you are afraid.

Afraid of a car accident, afraid of a plane crash, afraid of cancer, afraid of losing someone, afraid of catching a virus…. what will you DO in that fear?

Let’s decide today: When I am afraid, I will trust in God.

Coffee, Bible, Journal.
