“Nobody knows the trouble I’ve seen” the old song goes, and those are words we can all understand.
No one understands the aching heart, the broken body, the calamities all around that we go through. It’s enough to make one give in and give up.
Been there. Deeply there – enough so that I was planning the surrender of my life to death.
Then I learned that God understood everything I was feeling, had experienced the same things I had, and not only that, there are people who have experienced the same things, too.
Our trouble is, we think someone has to go through the exact same thing with the exact same people in the exact same way in order to understand. That’s the enemy’s lie trying to crush you!
There are people who understand your grief. There are those who have been through betrayal. Many have been lied to and about. There are those who God has brought through those wounded places and now uses to help you and me. Praise Him!
All those troubles, all those trials, they’re overwhelming, but Paul wrote that instead of focusing on those, we should focus on God and His promises – the unseen. When we do that, we realize that the troubles we see here may follow us to our grave, but they will not follow us into eternity.
That all seems rather ambiguous and intangible though; doesn’t it? I get that. We all want what we want and we want it NOW! In the verses prior to this one, we’re told that in time, the troubles that weigh us down today will one day be of no consequence. That’s the day we are to focus on as we continue our faithwalk.
One day—maybe in your earthly lifetime, maybe in heaven—all that is painful, heartbreaking, and distressful will be gone. Gone. Never to be seen or considered again.
Focus on the Lord, Believer. Trust Him to walk with you through these troubles you face. He’s there. Slip your hand into His and trust Him to hold on tight. Walk forward in your faithwalk each day knowing that one day, all these things that have you in turmoil will not only be gone, but won’t matter at all.
