God’s Instructions: Irrelevant or Perfect?

The Law of the Lord. Doesn’t really seem perfect to our day and time, does it? Not sure it revives the soul, either.

We look at the Law as something to dismiss,
to say that grace negates,
to think is irrelevant to us,
and especially as
being too onerous to carry.

Yet David didn’t see it that way. He saw the instructions of God to be perfect, bringing restoration to the weary soul.

I think the difference is that we don’t recognize where our weariness comes from and David did. We don’t see God as perfect and David did.

Scripture tells us that sin brings death. That doesn’t mean physical. We’re all going to deal with that.

No. That means a soul-death. Carrying that death-bearing sin tarnishes our souls and makes us exhausted beyond what our mind and spirit can bear.

God’s instructions help us avoid the sin that kills our soul. When we apply it to the sin we’ve allowed to creep or barrel in, we can repent (turn from the sin) and feel new life blossoming in our soul, our spirit reveling in its restoration.

The second part of the verse mentions the decrees of God, the original language meaning warning signs and reminders. David says those are trustworthy and the people who pay heed to them—even the youngest and most naive—become wise.

God’s Word isn’t there to squash life for us. It is there to help us truly live. God knows the cost of our entertaining sin and He gives us instructions to avoid paying that cost, as well as the way to escape the debt. He has also given warning signs and reminders to help us make the wise choices necessary to live fully.
