Choose your battles

Did you know you’d enlisted in the army? You did so when you decided to be a follower of Jesus.

Many of us like to think that this becoming a Christian brings a life of peace and ease, and there IS peace, but the ease is a different matter.

See, there’s an enemy who prowls the earth, looking to steal, kill, and destroy. This enemy wants to destroy God, but cannot, so he works through us to wreak havoc on the earth to cause people to choose him and self instead of God.

We get to go to battle against this enemy alongside those who walked with Christ. (How incredibly cool is that?) We get to war in the heavenlies as though we’re wielding weapons here where we walk, and that means we’re going to suffer.

We won’t enjoy some of the things those not in the army will. We won’t go places those not in the army go. We won’t live like those not in the army do. However, we will enjoy, go, and live in the Kingdom of God and there is nothing at all like that.

The secret is in the fact that we choose to remain focused on the Savior and His Kingdom rather than this one. We keep our eyes on the prize of eternal life that began when we received the free gift of salvation through the sacrifice of Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection. We walk, talk, and live as someone in the employ of a Superior who directs our every action and reaction, requiring our obedience.

It is this focus on the Father that proves our allegiance, this not getting deeply involved in the skirmishes before us. It’s this choice to be involved by taking the battle to the enemy in the supernatural realms. We remember that the enemy is not the person standing before us or visible on TV.

What battlefield has God set you on? What passion burns in your heart that you can’t shake? Endure, my friend. Hold tight to the King and walk as a victor in His army. Be prepared to lift shield and sword and take the enemy to task in that area you’ve been assigned. If you don’t know where that is, ask God. He’ll tell you.

Coffee, Bible, Journal.
