God doesn’t answer my prayers!

Psalms 130 starts as a prayer from the depths of despair, begging the Lord to hear and heed.

I’ve been in those depths before, have you? Where there’s no way to look but up, but even then, you’re not sure God is hearing you?

We humans are an impatient lot. We want instant rescue, and relief in the blink of an eye. We might unconsciously see our prayer for help as a demand, expecting Almighty God to take care of our business in a snap. We tend to treat the Sovereign Lord as some sort of cosmic vending machine: if I put enough prayer and good deeds in, I’ll get out just what I want.

He’s not and we need to stop.

His plans are higher than we can comprehend. His ways are elevated way beyond ours. We want relief when He knows what we need the most is surrender to Him. We want healing of our bodies when He knows what we need most is a healing of our heart. We want what we want right now, when He knows the delay may bring others to know Christ. We think He doesn’t answer us when we don’t get what we asked for.

God always answers our prayers. The answer is either yes, no, or wait. The thing is, we don’t accept no or wait as answers, so we believe and say that He has ignored us. Not the case, my friend. God has heard you. He loves you like a mother loves her newborn. Does a mother miss the tiniest whimper of that new baby? He knows, though, what will come if you have that for which you are asking. He knows how that fits into His plans for you. And He answers you accordingly.

We must develop our faith muscle enough so that when we pray, we’re seeking God’s will for us, whether it be yes, no, or wait. We must develop our faith enough to accept whichever answer He gives.

Lift up your voice from your depths of despair. Place your hope squarely on God and His word. Know that with the Lord, there is unfailing love and complete redemption. Trust Him to know the best for the child He loves: you. And wait.
