Give thanks to God because HE IS GOOD!

David is recorded as saying, “Give thanks to the Lord for He is good! His faithful love endures forever.”

There are places where the scriptures enumerate the things God has done for His people, but here we see an instruction to thank Him simply because He is good.

I think that sometimes we get confused about this praise/thank thing—not a problem, but one to be addressed.

There is a difference between praise and thanks. We thank God for the things He has provided and things He has done. We praise Him for who He is and for His attributes. We sometimes get confused, because we also praise Him for things He has done.

It’s hard to praise God for being Provider and not talk about what He has provided. It’s hard to praise Him as Healer without talking about the things He has healed us from.

There are times, though, that we need to just thank Him because He is good.

See, He is good all the time. Every moment of every day, God is good.

Where we get mixed up is when He says no to us or when He prevents us from going, doing, or having what we think we need.

EVEN THEN,
God is good, and we should give thanks to Him.

His love for us is so great, so big, and so true! And that love prevents Him from letting us go willy-nilly down life’s pathway toward harm and destruction.

Just like you wouldn’t watch a toddler walk up to a rattlesnake without stepping in, God won’t let us plunge into poor choices without stepping in.

To be completely real, though, we often ignore Him and plunge on anyway. BUT… God is still good and His faithful love for us endures forever.

Even if we ignore God and His will for us,
He doesn’t change.
His love for us doesn’t diminish.
His tender care doesn’t dissipate or disappear.

What do you say? For today, let’s thank God just because He is good. Let’s recognize Who He is and thank Him for being all that and for loving us with His perfect love that extends grace and mercy beyond what we deserve or can ask for. Then let’s do it again tomorrow, too.

Give thanks, Believer! Our God is GOOD!
