Drumming up the desire to do God’s will

“How am I supposed to be this great follower of Jesus when I can’t seem to get anything right? I can’t even make myself read the Bible or go to church!”

Ever say words like these?

Oh, dear Believer! I have some great news for you. You don’t have to muster up the desire to do the right and godly things. Paul wrote in his letter to the believers at Philippi that God would give them the desire AND the power to carry out that desire that would be pleasing to Him.

How cool is that?
How hard is that!

It’s actually
another step in
surrender.

We’re used to doing everything in our own willpower. We believe ourselves capable of anything as long as we push ourselves hard enough.

Let me ask you, though, how would walking the Christlike life under our own steam be the easy and light burden that Jesus talked about?

It wouldn’t.

If we try to do it in our own power, we get tired and totally frustrated, and in time, we drop the effort because it’s too hard.

If God will place His desire for godly living in us, then we don’t have to struggle with that aspect. Beyond that, our Father in heaven gives us the power to carry out those godly desires! Wow!

So really, all we have to do to walk toward maturity in Christ is surrender and obey. We can rest assured that the Holy Spirit will never lead us astray.

How about today we drop our willpower, put our hands up, and surrender to the God of our salvation. He refuses to leave us on our own. He’s got some really stringent rules. He knows we can’t do this on our own, so He helps us out at our core.

Release yourself from having to measure up to any other human and listen for His prompts toward Christlikeness. You’ll be amazed at the change in your mindset and thus your behavior.
