Choose One: Life or Death

Sin: that which an offense against a standard.
The “standard” is God.
Sin is an offense against God.

Wages: payment, result, support
Every choice has a consequence or result.
Sin pays wages.

Death: plague, dead, die, death, fatal
Death is fatal and final.
Sin brings death from which there is no return.

We do not like these words. We don’t like thinking we’ve ever possibly done anything wrong, much less done it against God. I mean, sure, we told a fib when we were kids, but that wasn’t a big deal, right?

In construction, two tools are used to be sure a building’s walls are true: a level and a plumb line.

When a plumb line is held against a beam that is out of alignment, that discrepancy is visible, and repair is required. The beam has to be pulled into alignment, or it has to be removed altogether.

There are three concepts of sin in the Bible:
Sin = missing the mark
Transgression = rebellion against God
Iniquity = perversion of something created good

All of these set us against God’s perfection. We simply don’t measure up or align with Him, we are instead joined with an offense against God.

Every choice has its “pay” or wages. And sin’s wages, despite the attraction of free choice, fun, or pleasure, are exorbitant. Sin provides fantastic short-term benefits, but the actual, long-term wages are more than anyone really wants to pay: forever death.

God’s wages are life. Forever life. More life than we know right now.

Why would anyone choose death over life?
Because they don’t know the truth. The enemy of our souls hides the truth from those who don’t know God. The words of the Bible are gibberish to someone who doesn’t know the Savior and His Spirit. They do know what they like and so they choose self over God.

Believer, we have this life that is offered to every human, but we seem to be keeping it to ourselves like it’s a limited commodity. It’s time to spread the truth like glitter—Everywhere! Even when we see some already present, spread more!

We all get to choose whether we will follow God or remain in opposition to Him. Today is the day to make that choice. We get to choose our wages. We must choose well.
