We live in a world that is dangerous. We do.
The thing is, it’s really no more dangerous today than it was in Noah’s time or Moses’ time or Jesus’ time or anytime in history.
Mankind’s choice to ignore God creates a space within that is ugly and destructive—to self and others. When that spills over onto others, it does so in dangerous, destructive ways.
David wrote these words, declaring that God is his strength and shield from all dangers—natural, supernatural, and manmade.
He goes a step further to declare that he trusted God with all his heart. Ahh, there’s a step we might need to go back and redo. Often we SAY we trust God with all our hearts, but then, when push comes to shove, we trust in us and our abilities more.
Who do we turn to for justice in our world? God or lawyers?
Who do we seek for healing? God or doctors?
Who do we go to for advice? God or friends, family, and Facebook?
NOTE: I am NOT saying we should never go to lawyers, doctors, or friends and family, but I AM saying that we should always seek God in every circumstance FIRST. We should always T R U S T that He is the answer to our every question.
We need to spend more time
trying to understand Him
than jumping off the handle
to take care of things ourselves.
David said that because of his acknowledgment of God as his shield and strength and his full trust in God, He experienced God’s help and was filled with joy. This relief through God’s help and supreme joy within led him to burst forth in songs of thanksgiving.
In my recent brush with cancer, I trusted God for the answers. I listened to Him about whether to go for treatment, how far to go in that treatment, who to trust with that treatment. He led me through every moment—even the ones when I felt scared and anxious. He HELPED me… every step of the way. All through that journey, I was filled with inexplicable joy and peace.
And let me tell you, I can’t stop talking about it! I can’t not praise Him and talk of Him and how He honored my trust of Him with His presence in my time of need.
God is honorable in all things, in every way. You can trust Him with all you are, think, and feel. He will honor that, too. He will walk with you through whatever you’re going through. He will lift your head that is lowered by shame. He will heal your broken heart. He will meet your every need and cause joy to overwhelm you.
Step into this Shield and Strength today, Believer. Get ready to sing!
