Choosing not to worry

Don’t worry about anything!

I once heard that worry is praying for what you don’t want. I like that. Not worrying, that definition.

When we focus on a thought or idea over and over, its meditation. Meditation becomes prayer. If we’re focused on the outcomes we’re worried about, we’re meditating on them, thus praying for them.

Beyond that, we’re sinning.

Yep. Big and bold: sinning.

But Faye, I just can’t stop!

God says differently. If He says to do or not do something, it’s a guarantee that humans are able to obey that, otherwise He wouldn’t have said to do it. The only reason we “can’t” do it is because we choose not to.

I don’t mean to sound harsh. I really don’t. I believe this has become a fantastically horrible way of life that is decimating the faith-life of too many believers and is making the enemy exceedingly happy.

When we don’t obey God, the enemy wins.

When we change our what-ifs and fears and worry into intentional prayer and release them to God’s care, we are relieved of stress and strain.

When a situation is outside our ability to affect the outcome, we must release it to God, the only One who can control it.

When my beloved stood at the brink of death just over six years ago, I prayed, but I really wasn’t worried. I knew that if he died, he was much better off, and I trusted that if that happened, God would take care of me.

Actually, a lot of things ran through my mind, how would I pay the mortgage payment, how would I make the car payment? How would I survive? All valid concerns in that situation. Even as I thought them, though, I would think, God has me, He will guide my every step. I’ll be okay. Then I’d start bombarding Heaven for Jack’s life again.

That doesn’t mean I’m superwoman or that my faith is superior. It means that in those moments I was obedient to God.

It was a choice. A choice we can make today. And again tomorrow and the next day.

Today, as concerns cross our mind, let’s take them immediately to the throne of God and lay it there. No, no! Don’t pick it back up and don’t grab a corner to hold onto.

You can do it. I believe in you, and God does, too.

Coffee, Bible, Journal.
