Cancer is Superficial Compared to Our Mortal Wound

Mankind exists in rebellion. We are born there. It’s the curse that was placed on Adam.

We are mortally wounded when we come into this world. Our eternity is secured—we will be forever absent from God. Forever death. Forever torture. Forever.

But God.

It is not God’s will that we perish in that state. It is not His desire to lose us to the choices that destroy our future. Because of that, Jesus came to walk this planet as a human, but unlike humans, He never sinned. Never broke the Commandments. Never, not even one little one.

Though He did not deserve the punishment, the torture, the death that we did, He took every bit of it and then some, including separation from God for a time so that we would not have to. By our choice to believe in Him, His death, burial, and resurrection, and follow Him, we are healed of that mortal wound and change our secured eternity to life in the presence of God.

Isaiah wrote these words about 400 years before Jesus was born, telling of this Messiah who would come and free the people from the things that hurt them. They saw release from tyrannical oppression and the end of sickness and disease. God was presenting eternity to them and they looked at their immediate circumstances.

Oooh, don’t we do that? We look at our comparatively superficial wounds and ignore the gaping mortal wound of life in rebellion to God. We are concerned about the here and now when eternity is exponentially more of our lives.

YES, cancer and other destructive diseases are huge concerns. I’ve experienced the Big C twice. It’s scary. It takes over. But, dare I say, being banished from God’s presence forever is far worse. It is something to be avoided at all costs.

Even as we search for our healing of physical, emotional, and mental wounds, let us press harder for the spiritual healing that is found only in the Messiah, Jesus.
