So many times I have read this verse as do-and-get. Do the delighting in the Lord thing and get what you want. I’m not sure that’s what David meant at all. Work with me here, y’all.
What if, instead of an instruction to behave so we would get the consequences we want, David was telling us that by delighting ourselves in the Almighty, He would place in us the desires we should have?
What if, instead of us having desires that God meets when we delight ourselves in Him, He gives us the desires that please Him and thus please us?
What if we take great pleasure in God, getting a kick out of Him, and by doing so, the things we desire most change, moving into line with what He wants for us?
What if this means we don’t have to work so hard at doing things but can focus on our relationship with the Creator?
Just a few thoughts to get you started today.
