Isaiah had just been talking about this Branch of Jesse, this One who would rise up with the Spirit of God resting on Him. He would have wisdom and understanding beyond Solomon’s. He would have great counsel and might. He would delight in obeying the Lord.
People then and now realized Isaiah was talking about the Messiah, the Savior.
At that time, the twelve tribes had split 10 & 2. The 10 despised the 2 and vice versa. It wasn’t pretty. The leaders of the two nations had failed miserably, many leading the people in utter rebellion against God.
Isaiah has been shown this picture of the nation of Judah enduring much judgment because of that rebellion, and here is seeing the salvation brought by the Messiah.
That’s great Faye, what’s that do for ME?
So glad you asked!
We live in similar dire situations. The rebellion against God is alive and well around us. It’s actually quite easy to get caught up in it as we live in our culture.
Fear and anxiety are on the rise and being a believer in Jesus isn’t an antidote. The pull of the world around us is one more thing to be anxious about.
However, because the Messiah came to heal the Israel/Judah break along with broken people, we can trust that He does the same for us even now.
No matter what has broken us, Jesus offers not only healing, but restoration to the person who trusted, who had clear sight, who heard His voice and obeyed. He offers peace – not just the absence of conflict, but the Presence of Almighty God in us, working through us, to accomplish His perfect will.
How wonderful to be able to say, “Behold, God, my salvation! I will trust and not be afraid, for the Lord God is my strength and song; yes, He has become my salvation.”
When we trust Him, our fear has to take a back seat. When we continually trust Him, fear has to get out of the car entirely.
What do you say? Today let’s trust God to be who He says He is, that He can do what He says He can do, and that you are who He says you are.
Take a small step toward Him today and tell fear and anxiety to start packing.
