God called Aaron (Moses’ brother) and all his descendants to be His priests, set apart solely for the purpose of leading the people to know and worship God. He had some pretty strict rules for them to adhere to. You can read those in Numbers and Leviticus!
Once all the consecration and anointing had been done to install these men as priests, God told Moses to give them a special blessing – not just for them, but for them to speak over the people. These verses are that blessing.
Since Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross tore the Temple veil in two, demolishing the concept of a distant God and proving Himself a personal God, we who are believers are all His priests. I believe this edict still stands, that we are to bless people with this blessing, trusting that when we do, God Himself will bless them.

What an amazing thing to receive. Even better to share! What if, instead of just hanging with folks then leaving them with a “catch you later,” we left them with this blessing? What if when this blessing is spoken over us, we received it as real and fully ours?
My friend, may the Lord God Almighty bless you and protect you. May He keep you from all dangers and snares, revealing the way out of every temptation. May He keep you safe and covered from all attacks of the evil one.
May you see the Lord smile on you, recognizing His pleasure in you. May you realize his grace toward you, beyond the saving grace. May you see each grace and glorify Him for it.
May the Holy One of Israel show you His favor, His mercy and love based on who He is, not what you’ve done. May you receive His righteousness and walk in it. May you bask in the peace God gives you daily, trusting that He always holds you in His righteous right hand.
And, may we use these very words to bless others. Every time we pray over someone, every time we part company, every time we have the opportunity, let’s squash the jerk enemy who tells us it’s weird, and speak these words over those we care for.
Today’s challenge: speak this blessing over someone today. Don’t let the day get away before you do so! Then watch what happens.
