Taking care of Planet Earth

Today much of the world celebrates the Earth. What a fantastic time to honor the One who created it! David penned these words inspired by God: “The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it. The world and all its people belong to him.”

There is nothing that has been created that wasn’t created by the Almighty. There is nothing that exists that doesn’t belong to Him. Including you.

Now, don’t take this wrong. All the people belong to God, but not all accept that and choose Him. Many choose self as god and relinquish their inheritance of Heaven and eternity in God’s presence. Please don’t be one of those people.

I enjoy taking care of and tending the earth. I like planting and reaping. I love that with some work on my part, the earth will supply sustenance and beauty. Most of the time.

There have been times when we’ve planted and gotten nothing. A whole row of 20+ cabbage plants yielded nothing. Two rhubarb plants carefully tended provided zip. We simply weren’t in control.

God IS in control.

It’s difficult to see man’s effect on our planet and not want to do something. We should do something to alleviate the burden. The trouble with most modern environmental plans is that we get the concept of who is serving who backwards.

In Genesis, God gave dominion of the earth to man. Man was to tend it, care for it, reap from it, and be sustained by it. The earth serves mankind. That means that mankind has to take care of their possession. Similar to having better results when we care for our family and our possessions, caring for Earth provides better service to us.

God intended for us to USE the Earth, not abuse her. He did not intend for us to let the Earth sit idle and unused except at specific times (every seventh year, year of Jubilee).

It is therefore incumbent on believers to do just that. Care for our planet. What we do may not look like what modern day environmentalists want to see, but we must follow God’s plan as He wrote it, not as interpreted by someone with an agenda. Not even me.

Clean up your space. Remove the garbage. Use less of that which must deteriorate over time. Avoid use of unnatural. Recycle where you can, including using grocery bags for laundry bags to lunch sacks and everything in between.

Believer, the Earth belongs to your Lord. Everything in it/on it belongs to your Lord. He has given you dominion over it, and that includes having responsibility for it. Use it wisely. Use it according to the Word.

Let’s start today. Do one thing today to care for the Lord’s Earth.

Coffee, Bible, Journal.
