Light is a pretty cool thing, don’t you think?
Darkness doesn’t snuff light out. It doesn’t overwhelm light. The light remains and continues to carve out a path in the darkness.
Light penetrates darkness like a blade, slicing through the thickest as though it were a mist.
Where light shines, darkness retreats.
The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it, John wrote.
In semi-darkness, we can see light, but it is in the thickest of darkness that we can not only see what light reveals, we can see the light itself.
Where there is much light, we barely recognize more light.
Think about that a minute. As believers, Jesus called us salt and light. Let’s focus on the light for a bit (pun intended).
When we are among other believers, other lights, our light is there, but it is not clearly visible.
When we are among those who are not believers, our lights shine forth, impossible to miss. Our light reveals Truth to those in the darkness, those who need light the most.
If you’ve ever taken a tour of a cavern that has a stream or lake inside, you’ll be introduced to fish that cannot see. The darkness has stolen that from them.
When we shine our light in the darkness, there are many who will not see because the darkness has stolen their ability to see. For those, we must be willing to do more than shine. We must be willing to go to them and help them find their way to THE Way.
Too often, we go about our lives with a different focus. We live for us. Oh, we’re not bad people. We’re not bad Christians, but we’re not fulfilling the purpose God set up for us. We’re not working to build the Kingdom. We’ll share about Jesus when God brings someone into our orbit, but really, we’re supposed to be going out into the darkness to touch lives surrounded by that darkness and show them light. Warm, revealing, wonderful Light.
Let’s get our light shined up, all the lenses reflective of the life-giving light of the Savior. Then, let’s follow Him into the darkness. Let’s stop shying away because it’s scary or dangerous. Let’s become concerned that the people around us are dying without the Savior – even those who say they know Him. Look for the lights. If you don’t see them, go and share yours, invite them to know Him.
