Many of us have heard the adage, “a child shall lead them.”

Nick will turn 17 on the 29th and is leading his family (I’m his grandmother) and our community in service to the homeless. 

When he was seven, he and his mom served with a group of students when they went to the streets to grill for those who live on the streets. He looked in the faces and saw the people. 

At one cookout, he met a family with three children. On the way home, he asked his mom, “Don’t you always tell me if we have extra we should give it to people who have nothing?” 

When she agreed that is indeed what she had taught him, he said, “We need to go back and get that family! We have an extra bedroom!”

His heart is huge for those without their own homes. 

Early June when Nick was nine, he heard on the radio that Knox Area Rescue Ministries (KARM) needed bottled water to give out to their clients. 

Nick quickly made a decision. He asked his mother if instead of getting a birthday party and gifts they would buy bottled water for him to give to KARM. That year when he turned 10, they delivered 10 cases. 

For his 11th birthday he delivered 50 cases. Each year the number of cases of bottled water has grown, and last year, for his 16th birthday, he delivered over 400 cases of water! 

His goal is to top that number as he delivers on his actual birthday this year.
