Give thanks to the Lord, for He is GOOD!
He kept me from cancer’s grip, He rescued me from abuse, He saved me from suicide, He is so good!
What if He hadn’t done those things for me? Would He still be good? YOU BET!
See, if I believe that God is only good when He does what I want, I have removed Him from His throne and turned Him into some sort of cosmic vending machine. And really, do we want a god we can control by inserting our praise like coins in a slot to get our choice of circumstances?
Despite uncomfortable things coming along in our lives, God is good. Always. Forever. In every situation. Good. Perfect. Amazing. Awesome in power, grace, might, and mercy. All ways. Even when things don’t go our way.
All the things God does for us pale in comparison to the one thing He did for every human: dying so we could live. There is no greater goodness, no greater gift.
God redeems those who will choose Him from eternal death, the forever separation from Him. If that was all He ever did for us, we could and should shout from the rooftops that God is good, His love endures forever!
In fact, that’s what the psalmist challenges in the next verse, “Has the Lord redeemed you? Then speak out! Tell others He has redeemed you from your enemies.” This was written to the Jews redeemed from exile with physical enemies they could see, but speaks to us here today with our physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual enemies as well.
We get to share all God has done for us, declaring Him good. I think we should also add that even if He had not done that for us, He is still good.
Let’s work on this. Let’s declare to others about when we were on the path of destruction and how God came and redeemed us, changing our direction from death to life. Let’s start today!
Coffee, Bible, Journal.
