Interested or Advocate?

The English words of Psalms 34:8 can be odd to say the least. “Taste and see”?

Let’s look at different translations of the original words.
The Hebrew “טעם” is translated as taste, but can also be translated as perceive.
The Hebrew “ראה” is translated as see, but it can also be translated as experience.
The Hebrew “טוֹב” is translated as good, and can also be translated as merry, pleasant, desirable; efficient; friendly, kind; morally good.

So, we could say “Perceive and experience that the Lord is pleasant, efficient, friendly, and kind.” and be equally correct.

See, we can hear people SAY God is good and be ho-hum about it, because it is something we haven’t met with on our own. It’s not something we’ve experienced.

When we become aware that God is good, when we understand it for ourselves, we become more interested and participatory.
When we experience His goodness, we become rooted in the truth of it and become advocates, sharing His goodness wherever we can.

To taste (perceive) brings us into the outer circle. To see (experience) brings us into discipleship—followership of the Lord.

A refuge is shelter—a place out of the elements, safe from predators and weather. A place of rest where the chaos is stilled. We who are believers take great joy in being able to come into God’s presence, finding peaceful shelter in Him.

Come, Believer, perceive and experience the Lord’s goodness today. Enter into Him as your refuge and enjoy your time with Him.
