He IS the Power

An attribute is a quality or characteristic for which a person is known. We're going to explore several attributes of God over the next few weeks. I'm glad you're joining us!  

Omnipotent means, “having unlimited or universal power, authority, or force; unlimited in ability.   

In Matthew, Jesus talks about how salvation is impossible for man to accomplish, but for God, all things are possible. God alone has the power and authority to declare a human to be saved from His wrath when they make the choice to align with Him through His sacrifice of Jesus.  

In the beginning, when Adam and Eve chose to seek their own power and glory, wanting to have their own way, their own autonomy, to be separated from God, He permitted that. They chose to disobey His one edict, thus choosing the consequence that came with that choice.  

In Jeremiah 32:27, God asks the question, “Is there anything too hard for me?”  

Just a few verses prior, in verse 17, Jeremiah declared, “O Sovereign Lord! You made the heavens and earth by your strong hand and powerful arm. Nothing is too hard for you!” 

In Luke 1:37, we see the angel of God sent to Mary saying, “For nothing is impossible with God.”  

This is incredibly important to our faith in God. If we don’t believe that God is the One with unlimited, universal power, authority, or force, and that He alone is unlimited in ability, how can we believe that He can or will do anything?  

  • We couldn’t believe that he could save us.  
  • We couldn’t believe that He created anything.  
  • We couldn’t believe that He came to earth as a human.  
  • We couldn’t believe that He parted the Red Sea.  
  • We couldn’t believe that He sent forth water from a rock.  
  • We couldn’t believe that He raised a man from the dead, gave sight to the blind, or healed the sick and lame.  
  • We couldn’t believe that He died and rose again, and we certainly couldn’t believe that He will return one day.  

Most horribly, we couldn’t believe that He wants any part of our everyday lives and turns to listen to us as we pray and seek His face. How could He if He’s not the ultimate authority?  

I think the question we face today is whether we fully believe that God is all-powerful. I think often we believe He was, but that maybe in today’s time He may not actually be. I think we see the circumstances around us where it appears the enemy has a leg up on God and is winning the ultimate battle for life and souls.  

Oh, my friend! Let’s squash that thinking with a resounding NO! Our God is the one and only omnipotent God. He is just as powerful today as He was when He commanded light into being. He holds just as much authority right now as He did when He made the Red Sea part long enough for over 100,00 people, herds, and wagons to cross over on dry land.  

God has not changed and we must put our faith solidly on that truth. What we see and what we feel can seem to prove otherwise, but the fact is, God is and always be the one and only omnipotent God. When we do, all the things we read about in the scripture ring true and our ability to see Him in our everyday lives grows and strengthens.  

Let us choose today and every day to recognize that God is omnipotent and that He chooses to use that power for our good and His glory.
