Choose: God or Self

We all worship one of the two: God or self.
Worshiping self doesn’t mean you’re a narcissist. That’s something more.

What do I mean by worshiping self? This is when we make all the choices in our lives to our own benefit, for our own glorification and recognition. When everything we do is to please ourselves or to make us comfortable, we’re worshiping self, not God.

Don’t misunderstand. God will allow us to be comfortable sometimes, but He generally pulls us out of our comfortable complacency to get moving on the mission He has given us.

Many don’t want to worship God because to do so means to stop the worship of self. God declares Himself a jealous God. He will not be one among others. He will be The Only.

When we are introduced to Jesus and told of His sacrifice for our salvation, we then have the biggest choice of our lifetimes to make. God or self.

Will you continue to worship and please yourSELF or will you change tack and worship GOD?

The choice can be difficult, Jesus told us to count the cost of making it, that it would upset everything we’ve ever known. It will remove self from the throne of our lives and put Him on it.

Once the choice is made, the act is easy: repent. That is, change your mind and purpose, turn around and return to God. And in that moment, all our sins are erased. Blotted out. Wiped clean.

All that self-worship we’ve done will be in the past, forgotten by God, and we can move forward in God-worship for the rest of forever.

The next verse (some translations have it as the same verse) says that this repentance brings a refreshing like that of recovering from extreme heat or of reviving with fresh air.

Like a cool breeze on a hot day, our repentance renews our life and propels us to live forward in His will.

The first repentance brings us to salvation. Further repentance keeps us in God’s will and glorifies Him.

Where are you today? Do you need that refreshing? Do you need reviving? You know your next step.
