How many of you felt like you were completed hacked last year? All your plans went completely haywire?

For example, my husband retired last March. His last day was the last day of “normalcy” before COVID-19 took over.

We had made plans. Big plans. One was that we would use some of his retirement savings to pay off some debts so we could enter the retirement zone with zero payments other than utilities. The trouble was, we couldn’t access those funds until he was retired, and by that time, the market was reacting to the virus. The funds that would have made us debt-free were gone. POOF! Plans changed.

We had also planned a grand adventure as a way to celebrate his freedom from the workplace. We were going to spend a week with a friend in Alaska, then cruise, then visit our son in Colorado, then take a road trip, ending at my family reunion in Arkansas. Cruise was cancelled, Alaska was closed, places to stay and visit were iffy. The trip was off. POOF! Plans changed.

I’m NOT saying that God initiated the pandemic that slowed and even stopped the world. I am saying that even though we had planned meticulously how to handle the funds and had the trip detailed, the Lord ordered our steps. We didn’t get to do those things we had planned, but we DID get to experience some amazing things.

We have gone places we didn’t expect to, visited people we didn’t plan to, done things we didn’t have on a list.

See, God’s ways are not our ways. His thoughts are higher than our thoughts, and while He tells us to plan, to count the cost of our plans, we aren’t to get all wrapped up in those plans such that we miss Him.

What plans of yours has God interrupted? How did He do it? What was the result? Look carefully. Don’t despise His taking over. What He has planned is always best, even when you don’t get what you want.

It is when we draw near to the Lord that He allows us to know Him better. When we delight ourselves in Him, He provides to us the desires He wants us to have. When we choose Him over self, we are always rewarded.

We re-booked that cruise for this year and do you know what? We learned last week that it has been cancelled again. No problem! We’re looking expectantly to see what He has in store for us that will be even better. ‭

Let’s release our plans today to God. Let’s ask Him what we’re supposed to do with what we’ve been given. Where are we to go? Who are we supposed to talk to? What are we supposed to do?

When we learn those answers, let’s don’t hesitate. Let’s DO them! Obedience is better than sacrifice.
