So many of the days of this year have seemed dark – when we look at them in the light of earthly thinking. Politics, culture, societal upheavals, riots, protests, anger, rage, so much darkness, and it has felt like the heaviest weight possible pressing down on us.
But God…
Jesus said that He is the light of the world. He said that if we follow Him, we won’t have to walk in the darkness that is overseen by the enemy of our souls, a place where sin and evil reign, where there is no goodness, gentleness, kindness, love, joy, or peace.
Did you see He said “You won’t HAVE to…”?
The sad truth of the matter is, sometimes we choose to walk in the darkness. We may not go all-in, but we wade into the outer edges where we think we’ll be safe and remain untarnished. Dark is dark, y’all. Wet is wet.
We have the Light of the world leading us, showing us the way, illuminating the path He has chosen for us, the one that pleases Him, the one that is for our good and His glory, and yet we choose to go off-roading in dangerous territory. Then when we find ourselves overwhelmed by the darkness, we scramble and scream for rescue. How much easier it would be to just stay on the path God has designed for us and us for!
The good news is, when we have put our lives in four-wheel-drive and headed off the road, God provides a simple and foolproof way back for us:
Confess, repent, live. When we agree with God (confess) that we’ve stepped out of His will (sin), He cleans us up and restores us to that place of right standing with Him. As a result, we will turn from those wicked ways and walk with Him.
Where are you today? Are you walking in the Light, that leads to life or are you off-trail in the darkness? If you’ve never known the Light, today is the day to choose Him. If you’ve known the Light and stepped away from Him, today is the day to get back on track.
It’s time to take action for your life right now.
Coffee, Bible, Journal.
