Would you recognize Him?

The wise men, astrologers from another land, saw the star when the shepherds did, but they had a lot more ground to cover. They were overjoyed to see that star. They understood the significance, even though those near Him did not. They packed their bags, grabbed their gifts – obviously planned for ahead of time, and headed toward Bethlehem.

They traveled many days and after an awkward visit with Herod, went to the house where the now Child was with His mother. They recognized Him as the Messiah promised by the prophets. They opened their gifts and gave the King their best as they worshipped Him.

Here are my questions for us believers this Christmas Eve:

Are we looking for Him? I mean for the King, the Risen One, the Messiah returning? Or do we simply look for the manger again, the feeding trough filled with enough clean hay to keep the newborn warm?

If we saw the evidence of His return, would we notice or would we pass it off as that radical Christianity stuff?

Would we recognize Him if He didn’t look like the pictures we’ve been given to look at? Would we really see Him and recognize Him?

Believer, if you’re like me and wonder about the answers to these for yourself, take the time to seek God right now to help you, to build your faith, to give you eyes to see. Ask God to reveal Himself to you in this moment because you don’t want to miss the Savior today or any other.
